Every year, Automotive News Canada surveys the entire country in an effort to identify industry leaders in automotive sales, which culminates in a “Top Dealerships To Work For” list that is published annually. It is with great pleasure that we would LOVE to congratulate one of our clients, Volvo of Edmonton on being bestowed with this honor.

In 2018, Volvo Of Edmonton totaled 509 in new vehicle sales, up 23.2%, and 258 in used vehicles, up 16.7% for 2018, and is on pace to beat that record in 2019. In an interview with Automotive News Canada, Volvo of Edmonton Mike Norris had this to say:

Dealer Principal Michael Norris on helping employees develop a career path:

We highly value our employees and believe in growth from within. ... We operate on a principal of constant and never ending improvement and encourage our staff to strive for more. We offer training, support and mentoring to all employees open to advancement. We have an active apprentice program in our shop, we financially contribute to training courses and offer flexibility in schedules to accommodate courses and studying. We also offer individuals the chance to “test drive” alternate positions without losing the ability to go back to their original position.

Norris on unusual methods developed to reward employees and show them they are valued:

We truly value our employees and like to reward them often. We have developed many programs, including: Employees of the month and Employee of the year; names are posted and then at a year-end celebration, all monthly recipients receive cash, and the Employee of the Year receives a trip.

Periodic bonuses. Performance incentives to salespeople. Gifts for major life events like a new baby, wedding, etc. Tickets to sporting events and concerts. Donation Program, in which we donate and support events and organizations that our staff are involved in.

Norris on lessons learned from a hiring/employment-related mistake:

I have committed the mistake of hiring friends. We have learned that this brings a whole different host of challenges and issues. It can negatively alter relationships. We will refrain from this practice in the future.
